If you are a very meticulous person and are confident in your ability with DIY projects, then you can install the shower tray yourself. However, if you are not, then you can always hire the services of professional bathroom outfitters to do the installation for you.
Here is the step-by-step process of installing the shower tray yourself.
Bed Trays
Once you have chosen your shower tray you need to choose whether you want it to lie flat on the floor or lie on top of a base or a stand. By choosing flat on the floor, you have to create some room in the floor for the waste traps. By choosing the latter, the base can be created using plywood. Just make sure though that there is ample room for the waste traps.
Now that you have made your pick, make the area where you will install your shower tray flat and even with the use of sand and cement. You can also use a bed of sealant. Not only can this help seal the floor from water leaks, but it will also keep the shower tray in place.
The next thing to do is to put your shower tray flat on the concrete floor or sealant bed. You need not tilt it to one side as the shower tray is already sloped to allow water to drain down one side.
Next, fit the waste traps under the shower tray, attaching them snugly to the pipework that will drain the wastes out. If you have chosen to put your shower tray on a base, you can use a skirting board as a cover to the waste traps. But always make sure that you can easily access the waste traps.
Now that the shower tray is flat and even on its base, you can now tile the walls around the shower tray. This is done last because if you tile the walls before you place the shower tray, there might be some gaps, and these gaps will allow water to leak down the sides. So always tile the walls last to make your shower area waterproof.
